A Brief Family History

How we all got here...

Our HUFSTEDLER family came to America on the Ship Harle on September 1, 1736 at Philadelphia Harbor. With this family there was a Mar Catharina Hochstattler 42 years of age. Maria Eve was listed as being 28 years of age . Also a Michael Hochstattler arrived on the Ship Harle and was listed with the sick. It is not clear if Michael belonged with our family, I believe that Michael, son of Jacob and Maria Eva was born on board the ship to America.

Book -"Pennsylvania German Pioneers" lists the Ship Harle - landed in Philadelphia on September 1, 1736,

List A spelled Jacob Hochstettler,

List B Jacob Hofstedler and

List C Jacob Hoffstadler. List C shows that he made his mark (X), so he could not write and they would have had to go by the sound. That would account for the different spellings.

Book - German, Swiss and other immigrants: Lists Jacob Hostedler on the Ship Harle, September 1, 1736.

The State Department of Archives in Raleigh, North Carolina have Lincoln County Estate Papers on Eve, Henry, Jacob, John, Jonas and Michael Huffstetler.
